Today’s interview is with one of my all time massive girl crushes on the internet – Peony Lim. Peony has amazing style (including a sweet collection of hats and headpieces) and her blog is filled with lovely photography, delicious recipes and fabulous Fashion Week outfits. She was gracious enough to to share some of her style and personal thoughts with us – another two part interview, because there were just too many great photos I wanted to include. Enjoy!
Peony Lim
First things first – who are you? What do you do, and where do you live?
I’m Peony Lim. I’m a blogger, stylist and online store owner, and live in London most of the time.
You have such amazing style. Who are some of your style icons?
I dont really have any, but I really value my mothers taste and opinions, she has really helped to educate my taste and sense of style.
Can you list some of your absolute favorite items in your closet?
My Alaia Coat, my mini Hermes Birkin (which I call Perkin!). I love J Brand jeans, I probably would die without my Zara white shirts of all different styles and types, and my vintage pieces are very special to me (most are family hand-me-downs). I have a lot of pieces which have a lot of sentimental value, like my Marie Mercie cat hat.
What about the items that you wear the most?
Jeans, white shirts, cashmere cardigans, black ankle boots of different orientations, hats, cargo jackets, metallic jumpers, my watch, rings, maxi dresses, summer dress – wow this is not a short list… clearly I dont wear one thing that much! Actually that is a lie, I would say my bags get the most wear.
Can you share some of your style tips that you’ve had to learn over the years with readers?
1. Don’t try to be anyone else. Be yourself and have faith in your taste. Trends are great but never invest in them before you have your good quality basics in the closet.
2. Never worry about over dressing or under dressing, some people can work the the casual effortless look, some can’t, dont worry about it too much.
3. Finally, at the end of the day, if you love something, does it really matter if anyone else does…? You are the one wearing it, so enjoy it.
Isn’t Peony’s style fantastic? I love how she’s a mix of Kate Moss + Mad Men + her own unique twist. Come back tomorrow for more on Peony – where she’ll share details behind her own line, including the smock she’s wearing below. In the meanwhile, check out Peony’s blog, here.
