How were your weekends? The weather was amazing here in the Bay Area…again. It’s getting to the point where I’m massively afraid of what’s coming in winter just because we’ve gotten so many great weather days so far.
Today I wanted to share with you all my favorite food in the world. Not the prettiest looking but to me, the best tasting ever: spicy beef noodle soup. I have been obsessed since childhood and would have beef noodle soup multiple times a week if possible. I wanted to serve it at our wedding but my mother quickly shut that down, bringing forth sighs of relief from our caterers. I would give up chocolate before I gave up noodles. I would give up never being able to buy Chanel again. I would watch Battlefield Earth or some similarly horrible movie every week. Okay, I think you all get my point. I just think this dish is so awesome and I want to tell everybody to try it at least once.
I would love to hear then …. what all your #1, last meal on earth, favorite foods in the world are. If you feel the way about them that I do about beef noodle soup – well then, I need to try them!

October 24, 2011 at 2:57 pmI used to love a very similar Korean version of this soup called Yu Kai Jang (or something like that). I don't eat red meat anymore, so unfortunately it's not in my life any longer 🙁 I love pretty much anything in Indian and Thai restaurants, but I think my last meal on earth would be some crusty baguette, blue cheese, smoked almonds, grapes, and a good red wine 🙂

October 24, 2011 at 5:43 pmI am a sucker for noodles soups, hands down. I LOVE pho and I know I would love this soup – bonus points for the words "SPICY BEEF" before the word noodle!

October 24, 2011 at 6:10 pmThat looks delicious. I love beef noodle soup. But my absolute favorite food is hummus with warm pita. I know, it's more of a dip than a meal but I have gone to middle eastern restaurants and just ordered hummus. Not quite sure I'd give up Chanel for it though.

October 24, 2011 at 7:54 pmSnap! My all time fav food has to be noodles too, my parents tell me it was the only thing I asked for a toddler. I love it in soup with lots of vegetables or fried, whatever and other oriental variations of.
Since last year I'm so happy that I've learnt how to make my own from scratch which is healthier for my kids who love it too – guess it's in the genes 🙂
So apart from that is has to be classic French or seafood Italian.

October 24, 2011 at 8:03 pmLet's talk about how delicious that looks and how much I miss it! I haven't had it in years and it brings a tear to my eye. . . I live in Chicago and I would rather have none than bad beef noodle soup (which there is plenty of bad chinese food here). Noodles and noodle soups are my favorite food. Pho, Ramen (japanese fresh kind) and Beef Noodle soup. . . oh, I miss it.

October 24, 2011 at 9:21 pmHaha, I noticed the bún bò Huế comment above. That's what I first thought of too. That used to be my absolute favorite Vietnamese dish, but don't eat it anymore now that I'm vegetarian. . . the vegetarian version is good too!

October 24, 2011 at 10:55 pmKatherine, i love beef noodle soup too!! And since you went to Berkeley like I did, I have to ask you if you ever tried China Village on Solano Ave…? We used to go there all the time with our church group–they had a really awesome chef from China. Best noodle soup I've ever tasted, although I'm no expert. 🙂

October 24, 2011 at 11:48 pm@atthepatisserieomg no! How long has it been around? I remember we used to go to some other place off of Shattuck – like China Wall or something?

October 25, 2011 at 3:36 amfunny, my friends and I were talking about last meals. I, of course couldn't decide right off the bat, but after my long list of a 10 course meal, I realized, Bo Nhung Dam (Vietnamese hot pot) is probably my absolute favorite go to food. :9 I had to make it the other day, and ate it 3 days in a row 😀

October 25, 2011 at 4:36 amHAHAHA! I can actually imagine serving a very small portion (i.e. espresso cup) of 'niu rou mien' at weddings.. it's THAT delicious! And the dessert post from before is OMG-YUM! I just attended TWO weddings this past weekend…I love the dessert part the most!

October 25, 2011 at 6:38 amYuuuuuuummmmmy! This looks perfect for the cloudy & foggy weather we've been having here in LA. I probably couldn't decide what would be my comfort food since I love homemade food, but if I had to choose, I would pick Thit Heo Kho Trung (Vietnamese Braised Pork with Hard-Boiled Eggs). When I was younger, my mom used to make it every week since it was one of my favorite dishes as a child (and I was a really picky eater)! There are different variations of it, but this blog make it the way my mom did: http://www.hungryhuy.com/recipes/how-to-make-thit-heo-kho-voi-trung-vietnamese-braised-pork-with-hard-boiled-eggs/
Check it out if you're interested in Vietnamese food! 🙂

October 25, 2011 at 8:15 pmHi there, I recently started to follow your blog and I absolutely love it! I thought I would comment on this because noodles are one of my favourite foods in the whole world too! Unfortunately its probably my #2 favourite (Ikura – Salmon Roe – on rice is my absolute #1). I dislike rice, but anything with ikura on it… gimmegimme!
Keep up the great work!

October 26, 2011 at 10:12 pmI feel this way about steamed head-on shrimps cooked Filipino style (tons of garlic and vinegar)… and definitely NOT the prettiest thing pictured or eaten in public. But you won't see me leave the table until the last shrimp is gone. Hahahaa!!!
