Went to visit the @simonandschuster offices a few weeks ago which was very exciting (!!) Met the wonderful team working on my novel and book people truly are the best people, when I think about the passion and creativity and smarts every single person I have met in publishing/arts hold in spades, it makes me weepy. So much admiration for everyone in these pictures ❤️

My avocados this season which I am so very proud of, procured by yours truly via extra long fruit picker which is my favorite purchase in years despite bystander mockery whenever I use it, in my ongoing battle against demonic thieving neighborhood squirrels who then without fail take their revenge the next morning by knocking a bunch to the ground and taking a bite out of each one

Turned in my last major editing round for THE SATI

Turned in my last major editing round for THE SATISFACTION CAFE. I always feel emotional at this point…it’s the last time you as the author can really make significant changes to the work, and sending it off really feels like letting go. Writing down these ideas, working them out, refining, has been one of the great joys (and frustrations) of my life.

I can really only write on nights and weekends and so was frantically editing the last few weeks at playgrounds, basketball games and empty corners at parties with my favorite buddies (uniball and stabilo!!). Thanks to everyone who has been patient when I said something like “okay wait just one more sentence and then we can go…”

For years it’s constantly felt like I could do one more sentence one more word. But now that’s basically done. There’s a sadness to it but it’ll also be nice to have space for other things I’m excited about. Onwards 🐆

My dad passed away ten years ago. I found these items from him within a few days of each other…the rabbits were in a bag meant for donation in the trunk of the car (kids probably dropped them in). He bought them for cents during a China trip. My mom said it was just junk he liked which is probably true but I’m still glad I kept them.

He bought me the ring when I graduated college. We were walking in SF and he saw it in the window of the old Cartier boutique on Post. He wasn’t a fancy guy by any means but also impulsively bought things he thought were cool. I wore it all the time and then after he passed I didn’t wear it anymore. I put it on for the first time recently.

He was a complicated and at times violent person. It feels weird writing that in such a public place especially as I don’t share it even privately but I’ll keep it in case anyone can relate and feels alone (maybe will delete later). I loved my dad and have forgiven him. I feel strange holding onto him now with physical objects, the ring especially as in recent years I’ve felt myself detaching from expensive items. I still like them but they mean less to me. I care more about experiences and people. But I haven’t had him around for a decade and so these are what remind me of him…I play with the ring or pass the rabbits on a table and there he is 🐇
