1. This week I’ve been in Hawaii on vacation with my family, so am in definite resort mode. Here’s a gorgeous Tularosa dress which I wish I had been able to order for our trip in time, although given that temperature are in the 90s in California, it would be quite versatile for at home too!
I love a lot of Tularosa items and how they look, and have ordered a few, but a lot of them have ended up too short for my liking (like this floral dress, which I just had to send back – super cute if you take a larger size or if you have a shorter torso). A bit surprising, since I’m 5’1 and not too many things are too short on me! This Tularosa dress however, is at a very wearable length and lined – I never understand when brands produce white dresses which are clearly meant to be worn out and about, but aren’t lined. The look is definitely resort, but isn’t too beachy where you wouldn’t be able to wear it on a warm day anywhere, You can even pull the sleeves up and it’d be OK for work. Love!
2. Have you ever heard of the brand, Lularoe? I hadn’t before this very interesting article, via Racked, about this fast growing leggings (and more) company and its business model. Ponzi or legit, what do you think? Have you ever tried or heard anything about this brand?
3. This fascinating article, via The NY Times – An Expensive Law Degree and No Place to Use it. Of course there’s been many articles already written about the difficulty for law students currently, and this article continues on the same theme, but still a good read with new insights.
4. I used to visit tumblr all the time, but rarely visit nowadays except to check in on a few favorites. Interesting considering how “hot” the site used to be – I remember when everyone had a tumblr! Read Mashable’s account of How Yahoo Derailed Tumblr.
5. This week I’ve been on holiday, and haven’t done any new reading (been doing TV catch up instead…and learning what vacationing with a baby is really like, ha). So I thought I’d recommend an old favorite of mine, Aztec, by Gary Jennings.
Aztec isn’t super serious award winning literature, but I would say that it’s a great adventure read and one that I’ve come back to two or three times. I’d describe it a bit as a Mayan version of Shogun maybe – a good historical fiction centered around a male protagonist. I learned a lot about Aztec culture as well from the book, even though it’s probably not entirely historically accurate. A recommended read for someone looking for a fun historical fiction option.
And before I wish you all a good weekend…even though I’ve been on holiday, of course I’ve been following the Brexit saga. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

June 24, 2016 at 12:29 pmPersonally I don’t trust the LuLaRoe thing. Something about it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, possibly because I hate when Facebook friends start to abuse their networks (ditto for Rodan & Fields). Combined with the fact that it’s just not my aesthetic and I’ve stayed for away from the whole thing – and that’s before this article clued me in to how much the initial investment required of the sellers is!

June 24, 2016 at 1:58 pmYes! It pains me when dresses (or any other item of clothing, really) aren’t lined but clearly need to be. I’ll never understand that, or the excessive cut-out trend. I joke/lament that they’re trying to trick us into paying more for (literally) less clothing. Sigh.
Hope you’re having fun in Hawaii! I live on Maui and remember commenting the last time you vacationed here! Enjoy! 🙂

June 24, 2016 at 5:30 pmI purchased those Stuart Weitzman sandals after you mentioned them a few weeks ago. Super comfortable and practical. They will get a lot of use!
I am contemplating that Peter Pilotto dress. Such a pretty print and an easy silhouette to wear.

June 24, 2016 at 9:57 pmHi Kat,
I came across your site as I was reading your interview with Peony Lim. I can’t believe how you can manage such a wonderful blog while working in tech! I am also in the Bay Area and work as a marketer – I feel I have so little time to write blog posts! Really love to meet you one day because I feel we are close and have similar background:)

June 25, 2016 at 9:22 amBack when I was in college a very long time ago, people thought only the top 20 law schools were worth it (and that you had to be near the top in student ranking if your school was in the teens) — even for friends who went to law school as a fallback. When did it all change? When did a JD from Podunk U become lucrative enough to take on debt?

June 26, 2016 at 3:49 pmI hadn’t heard of LulaRoe but it’s definitely too busy for my minimalist taste. Also, I’m always disinclined to trust clothes that retail for really cheap without any transparency — I just can’t believe that the people making them are getting living wages, ok working conditions, etc.
Brexit is all I’ve been reading for the last few days. It’s insanity! I really enjoyed this op-ed by Tony Blair:
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/26/opinion/tony-blair-brexits-stunning-coup.html
My favorite quote from this piece that really resonated with me, as an American in this particular election cycle:
“The political center has lost its power to persuade and its essential means of connection to the people it seeks to represent. Instead, we are seeing a convergence of the far left and far right. The right attacks immigrants while the left rails at bankers, but the spirit of insurgency, the venting of anger at those in power and the addiction to simple, demagogic answers to complex problems are the same for both extremes.”
Simple answers to complex problems, indeed. If only!
